Newport Laboratories is seeking an experienced individual to join our team as a Laboratory Associate. Newport Labs, located in Worthington, Minnesota, is a leading provider of USDA autogenous vaccines and diagnostic services, and was recently acquired by Vaxxinova (more information below).

About the Lab Associate Role:

The Lab Associate, reporting to the Manufacturing Team Leader, is responsible for assisting and supporting the daily functions of the department and complying with safety rules. This role will assist in the cleaning and upkeep of the lab.

Shift: Monday through Friday 10:00am to 6:30pm

Main responsibilities of the Lab Associate:
  • Ability to follow SOP's in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Assist with preparation of microbiological media
  • Wash glassware, plastic ware, racks, and other laboratory items
  • Re-stock supplies and notify supervisor when items need to be ordered
  • Sterilize plastic ware/glassware
  • Autoclave biohazard materials
  • Perform cleaning of lab areas; wipe down countertops, shelving, dump garbage, sweep and mop floors
  • Promote safety in all areas of work, professional courtesy, and a positive work environment within the company

Qualifications and Capabilities of the Lab Associate:
  • Familiar with laboratory equipment, microbiology techniques, and language of a microbiology lab
  • Basic math skills required
  • Communication skills to effectively work with teams and across departments
  • Good verbal and written skills required
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to follow department SOP's (Standard Operating Procedure)
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow verbal & written instructions in English
  • Ability to accurately record results, follow procedures, and adhere to good laboratory practices.
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time; bending, twisting, and preforming fine motor manipulations required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to pass medical clearance/fit testing
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associates in life sciences preferred.
  • 1-2 years laboratory experience preferred.
