DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department has an exciting opportunity for someone to function in a Chemist I to perform entry-level chemical analysis according to clearly prescribed procedures and laboratory techniques.
1. Analyzes, calculates and reports samples for pH, Conductivity, and Air Pollution testing as primary duties.
2. Analyzes, calculates and reports samples for Total Suspended Solids and Oil & Grease testing as backup duties or as needed.
3. Prepares reagents, standards, quality control samples, and proficiency samples accurately.
4. Receives, logs in, and signs off samples as needed.
5. Periodically, reviews and revises standard operating procedures and other documents.
6. Monitors testing turnaround times.
7. Assists with other work-related tasks and occasionally participates in city events.
8. Maintains supplies and clean laboratory equipment.
9. Communicates with clients, as needed, on corrections and other non-QC issues.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
