Adjunct professor for the undergraduate Environmental and Sustainability Science program within the Institute for Sustainable Practice. Adjunct faculty are sought to teach a variety of courses, for example, courses related to environmental law and policy, environmental management and technology, water, renewable energy, and introductory-level environmental biology.

Job-related skills:

Knowledge of principles, theory, and recent developments in environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability

Ability to collaborate with the director of the ESS program to develop and situate a course within the larger learning objectives of the ESS degree program

Ability to create a syllabus, course schedule, and assignments to effectively achieve the learning objectives of a course

Ability to tie course concepts to professional practice

Interest and creativity in facilitating hands-on and out-of-the-classroom student learning experiences

Ability to learn to use Campus Nexus, Lipscomb University's digital records portal

Ability to meet important course deadlines, like midterm and final grade submissions

Ability to interact with students, other educators, administrators, and staff in a professional and courteous manner

Flexibility with regard to unexpected changes in the learning environment

Ability to integrate technology into the learning environment

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education:

Preferred credentials: a terminal degree (e.g. PhD in sustainability, geology, soil science, water-related sciences political science, forestry, Environmental Management, sociology, or economics; J.D. with coursework in environmental law). Minimum credentials: M.S. in environmental science, sustainability, or similar field; M.A. in environmental studies or similar field.

Experience:

Professional experience (3+ years preferred) in an environmentally-focused field, continued civic/community/volunteer engagement related to environmental, social and economic work.

Teaching experience (though not necessarily at the university level) is preferred.
