Job Summary:

The Dean is responsible for leading and managing the Gail Miller School for Business by planning, coordinating, evaluating, and developing new and existing programs, and by assuming responsibility for the overall leadership including administration and management of the School to achieve the College mission. The Dean reports to and assists the Provost for Academic Affairs. This is an at-will position.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Executive Leadership:

Provide leadership and supervision by setting direction, monitoring operations, and implementing changes to meet community needs in the disciplines served by the School. Lead, coordinate, and evaluate the work of the associate deans to ensure the effective delivery of community college services within those specific areas of responsibility. Encourage and support faculty in the development of innovative teaching and curriculum design to improve teaching and learning. Attends and participates in appropriate College meetings and councils to represent the School. Ability to solve problems effectively through sound decision-making. Direct plans for the growth of new programs and courses to serve emerging community needs. Coordinate advising functions with Student Services. Direct the budget for the School to ensure effective budgeting and fiscal management.

Collaborative and Innovative Relationships:

Maintain and improve liaison within the College and with other colleges, universities, and educational agencies to facilitate effective and cooperative relationships including articulation with colleges, universities, and public education. Organize and direct the Deans Advisory Council and oversee the school ECPAC (Education and Careers Program Advisory Councils) committees. Serve on community committees, councils, and boards to represent the School and College in the community. Assist the College in fundraising and developmental activities.

Accountability and Development

Meet with the Divisions and departments on a regular basis to insure motivation, coordination, communication, and dissemination of information. Attends and participates in appropriate meetings and councils to represent the School of Business and coordinate responses to the recommendations of these committees. Represent and support the philosophy and mission of the comprehensive community college.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in any discipline offered by the College. Three years full-time teaching in an accredited institution of higher education, experience teaching at a comprehensive community college preferred. Experience working with administrators, faculty and staff on organized projects. Experience assisting with accreditation efforts within a comprehensive community college. Evidence of successful leadership experience in community college education.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated leadership skills using an innovative and flexible management style, creativity, assertiveness, sensitivity, and motivation.

Understanding of industry, workforce, and educational trends, and ability to lead instructional programs within a changing environment.

Knowledge of applicable accreditation standards (e.g., culinary arts).

Adhere to College policies and procedures, and other related regulations with the ability to operate instructional programs in compliance with them.

Knowledge of fiscal management and purchasing in higher education, and ability to manage resources within financial constraints and collaborate with Business Services through appropriate procedures (with preference for knowledge and experience in grant writing and fund raising).

Knowledge of state legislative processes.

Knowledge of learning resources, advanced learning technologies, concurrent enrollment, and other delivery modalities and teaching/learning methodologies, and ability to promote effective teaching and learning within instructional programs.

Ability to partner with Institutional Advancement to develop productive relationships with key external stakeholders.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, cultures, ethnic background to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic culture and ethnic background of community College students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
