POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Development, University of Hawai'iCancer Center ("Associate Director") is a key member of theUniversity of Hawai'i Foundation ("UHF") Development Team,primarily focused on identifying, engaging and solicitingprospective donors for major and leadership gifts that support thevision of the Director of the University of Hawai'i Cancer Center("UH Cancer Center"). The Associate Director will close giftsand steward donors so that positive and mutually beneficialrelationships continue.

Chief Executive Officer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Specific responsibilities and performance expectationsinclude:

Build and actively manage a portfolio of 75-80 major giftprospects, including those identified by the Associate Director,those assigned by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and theDirector of the UH Cancer Center.

Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors for majorgifts of $25,000 and above. The Associate Director is expected tomake appointments for personal visits with major gift prospectsthat ultimately lead to gift solicitations.

Annual and campaign goals are set by the UHF in coordinationwith University of Hawai'i Mā These include goals related to thenumber of new prospects, number of visits, number of solicitations,and gifts raised.

Participate actively and consistently in the UHF ProspectManagement Process: file timely (monthly) prospect clearancerequests for cultivation and solicitation; provide monthlyschedules of prospect appointments; file timely (monthly) contactreports on prospects; communicate with all team members on eachassigned prospect; develop written strategies and adhere toscheduled strategy for the cultivation and closing of majorgifts.

Develop a clear understanding of UH Mānoa's Kaka'ako HealthSciences Campus and UH Cancer Center, its strengths, andphilanthropic opportunities; develop cooperative workingrelationships with faculty, staff, and administrators.

Steward current and past donors to the programs of the UHCancer Center, to assure ongoing involvement and increasedgiving.

Work as a positive and productive member of the UHF DevelopmentTeam for the benefit of the total University.

Work closely with constituents to ensure effective coordinationof effort with their programs and activities in creating andimplementing major gift prospect strategies.

Growing a grateful patient program with our affiliatedpartners.

Assist with additional development functions as assigned.

EVALUATION

The Associate Director will meet annually with his/hersupervisor to put in place a plan for the year. This planwill include numeric goals for each of the basic responsibilitycategories, as well as program and professional developmentgoals. At the end of each year, the Associate Director andhis/her supervisor will review progress toward the annualgoals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experiencepreferred in a health-related, non-profit setting, preferably ahospital, development, or educational organization, with provensuccess in developing major gift strategies, soliciting and closinggifts and developing recommendations for stimulating interest inthe organization's program.

Bachelor's degree is required

Ability to work effectively in a large complex, dynamicorganization balancing competing priorities
Ability to communicate clearly and eloquently in written andspoken form
Ability to inspire and manage volunteers and colleagues
Ability to work with a diverse community
Ability to manage competing projects
Ability to meet deadlines and maintain self-motivation
Ability to manage and manipulate databases
Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook
Experience in higher education a plus
Strong interest and experience in health sciences research aplus

WORKING CONDITIONS

Based at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa's Kaka`ako HealthSciences Campus, 701 Ilalo Street, Honolulu, HI, this position willinvolve travel, mostly by auto, but occasionally by other modes oftransportation. The Associate Director must have a validdriver's license and an acceptable driving record. Theemployee may need to work some evenings and weekends and must beable to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a40-hour work week. Must be able and willing to travelinterisland and nationally upon request.
