  • Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' response in the medical record. Conducts clinical research RN duties including direct care of patients on clinical trials. Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computer system or telephone, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
  • Provides patient education and documents patient's response in medical record. Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment. Screen, consent and enroll patients to clinical trials while ensuring adherence to clinical trials protocols and procedures. Triages patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and documents such actions in patients' medical records. Provides After hours clinical on-call coverage as assigned per protocol.
  • Provides working supervision and delegates tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non-licensed medical staff, trained clinical research staff, or office support personnel. Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation. Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
  • Prepares equipment and assists physicians during exams, medical procedures and clinical research procedures. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician. Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment. Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area. Attends and participates in meetings related to clinical research and clinical activities.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting.
  • Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants including frequent port draws for research samples, performing ECG's and completing required study documents. Training for clinical research activities and maintaining protocol specific training.Marginal/Incidental Functions:Other related functions as assigned.Required QualificationsLicensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing. Current CPR certification. At least one (1) year of experience in an outpatient oncology practice Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Must be comfortable and flexible with changing priorities and self-directed problem solving.Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN) required at time of hire or within the first 12 months of employment. Three (3) or more years of experience in an outpatient oncology practice. Experience working with multiple types of oncology subspecialties (medical oncology, surgical oncology, gynecologic oncology, radiation oncology). Experience with clinical trials, especially early Phase I.Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or will be provided with). Experience working with caregivers. Experience with research activities. Working knowledge of and/or experience with Value-Based Healthcare Delivery models. Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency using Athena electronic medical records. Experience tracking, measuring, and using patient reported outcomes in developing treatment plans for patients. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not mandatory.Salary Range$80,000 + depending on qualificationsWorking Conditions
