Within the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) situated in the San Francisco Bay Area is dedicated to finding new therapies to treat and prevent a range of noncommunicable and infectious conditions, with an emphasis on global health diseases. With full access to NIBR know-how, NITD has a highly collaborative culture and maintains close links with academic centers of excellence and a broad range of philanthropic and governmental organizations around the globe (e.g., Wellcome Trust, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Medicines for Malaria Venture, Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative and NIH). NITD is renowned for applying cutting-edge technologies to the discovery of high-quality clinical candidates for the treatment of global health diseases.

The NITD Pharmacology group provides high quality in vivo research work and support to enable drug discovery research and development. We are looking for a Research Scientist I to coordinate and run in vivo research studies and projects to support the diverse and exciting project portfolio at NITD. The candidate should be action-oriented, skilled in experimental animal work, and possess a strong scientific background in order to plan, design, coordinate and perform in vivo experiments with high technical and ethical standards. The role will require an ability to work independently as well as in close collaboration with other research scientists.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Designing, scheduling and executing in vivo studies in line with project needs and timelines.
• Perform standard molecular biology techniques to determine therapeutic effects
• Analyze experimental data and prepare results for presentations and reports.
• Closely interact with other research scientists
• Develop new models and technologies as required.
• Other vivarium related duties as needed.

This position will be located at our Emeryville, CA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

-Education/Experience : Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biomedical or life sciences field preferred plus 0-2 years direct experience performing in vivo work.
-Knowledge of infectious diseases and/or immunology a plus.
-Strong technical skills to include compound formulation and administration, blood/tissue collection, clinical observations and necropsy
-Strong oral and written communication skills
-Detail and compliance orientated
-Collaborative mindset
-Flexibility on weekdays and weekends as required.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $62,900 and $92,300 /year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/22 through 12/31/22, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
