Optical Research Engineer / Scientist - Senior Level

CFD Research Corporation is seeking a highly qualified Senior Research Engineer/Scientist supporting the Advanced Photonics group. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and characterizing nanostructured optical materials (e.g., metasurfaces) for military and commercial applications. The candidate should have experience with Fourier optics, ray optics, image processing, experimental optical setups, and imaging measurements and characterization. Experience in computational imaging and machine learning is a plus. Successful candidate will eventually develop their own strategic research agenda and progressively become technical lead for structured optical material design. Candidates should have a strong technical background, as well as a desire to develop and commercialize new technologies. The Senior Research Engineer/Scientist will work collaboratively as a member of a research team in a dynamic work environment and must possess strong interpersonal skills to coordinate/collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• PhD degree (or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience) in engineering or physics
• Established research experience in structured optical material design and characterization
• Strong understanding of diffraction, ray optics, computational electromagnetics, and imaging system metrics
• Experience with RCWA-based software and ray tracing tools such as Zemax
• Experience conducting optical experiments (e.g., optical alignment, illumination systems, imaging systems)
• Programming experience, especially in machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills
• Demonstrated strong peer-reviewed publication record
• Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain/maintain a Secret Security Clearance
