Lipscomb University seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month lead faculty position as an Assistant/Associate Professor in Family Science (tenure track). The successful candidate will teach and advise undergraduate students in the Family Science degree program. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the areas of human development across the lifespan and family processes (e.g., families in later adulthood). We are looking for someone who can provide overall leadership for the family science program as well as contribute meaningfully to at least one of the 4 family science tracks:
  • Child and Family Services
  • Children and Family Spiritual Formation
  • Mental Health Professions
  • Family Life Education

Successful candidates will be expected to uphold the centering core, mission, and strategic goals of Lipscomb University.

We anticipate the start date of this position to be August 2023.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Doctorate or expectation of completion of degree requirements by appointment date, in human development & family science or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate level human development and family science courses related to development across the lifespan and/or family processes.
  • Scholarly expertise as demonstrated by conducting or publishing research in at least one of the following areas: Adult development and aging; children and/or adolescent development; family policy or intervention; family relationships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in teaching, scholarship, and service. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity to enhance a sense of belonging and academic success among all Lipscomb University students.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills.


Typical Duties:
  • Leadership: Collaborate with the department chair to set the vision for the family science undergraduate program and plan for its growth.
  • Teaching: The primary teaching responsibility is to teach undergraduate courses in the Family Science major. There may be teaching opportunities in the undergraduate psychology or graduate MFT program for someone credentialed to teach in those areas.
  • Academic advisement & mentoring: Advising undergraduate students on coursework and academic and career trajectories.
  • Scholarly activity: Engage in scholarly activity such as research, presentations, engagement with the professional community, etc. Membership and participation in NCFR, AAMFT, APA, ACLP, or other relevant association is expected.
  • University service: Faculty are expected to serve on committees, work groups, or special assignments in service to the university.
