Senior Expert Engineering - Biotechnology (m/f/d), 80-100%, Global Drug Development, Schaftenau, Austria

Novartis is investing in next-generation biotherapeutics with the creation of a fully integrated, dedicated $300 million scientific environment that will bolster its capacity and capabilities for early technical development of biologics. The Novartis early-stage biologics portfolio has grown significantly in the last 15 years. It has also expanded beyond conventional monoclonal antibodies into a wide range of novel development candidates with potential to be first-in-class, best-in-class, or both, including antibody-drug conjugates and therapeutic proteins.

As Senior Expert Engineering - Biotechnology (m/f/d) within this exciting environment you will be responsible to drive the seamless integration of advanced technologies in collaboration with other teams and partners, to enable biologics manufacturing. You will influence and manage engineering activities and apply scientific and technical expertise to address complex engineering from development through to the manufacturing sites.

Your key responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Drive the engineering development of innovative, sustainable, cost-effective and standardized biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies (upstream and downstream processes). This includes the transfer and support of technology implementation at commercial manufacturing sites.
• Proactively identifies scientific and technological challenges within continuous, intensified and integrated manufacturing processes and implements solutions to address these.
• Leads designated projects and initiatives throughout their lifecycle in alignment with defined goals to achieve milestones, deliverables and budgets.
• Contributes to the development and maintenance of global engineering standards and harmonization by ensuring close cross-departmental collaboration and alignment.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• University degree in Chemical/Biochemical/Biotechnology Engineering (Dipl. Ing, B.Sc, M.Sc) or equivalent
• 5+ years of relevant technical and cross-cultural senior engineering experience in the pharmaceutical industry
• Fluent in English (written and spoken), German is desirable
• Knowledge of biopharmaceutical process operations, equipment design and operations including practical GMP engineering experience
• Familiarity and understanding of scientific principles and concepts in chemical / pharmaceutical / biological sciences as well as a good understanding of cGMPs, industry and regulatory standards and guidelines
• Good interpersonal skills coupled with demonstrated networking capacities to ensure effective working in a matrix organization and a multi-disciplinary team environment

Desirable requirements:
• Experience with Emerson DeltaV platform and a basic knowledge of OSI-Soft Pi historians is beneficial
• Working with internal and external project groups
• Certifications in Six Sigma, project management or Operational Excellence
• Willingness to business travel (up to 15%)

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is ₠ 54.788,30/year (on a full-time basis). In most cases, the actual salary will be higher, as we strive to maintain a competitive position in the market and consider your previous experience, qualifications, and individual competencies
