POSITION SUMMARY

The primary objective of the High-throughput Sample Logistics and Solutions (HSLS) team within Pfizer Vaccine Research & Development (VRD) is to compliantly manage the biospecimen life cycle (collection, chain of custody, storage, distribution, & disposition) of pre-clinical and clinical trial samples supporting VRD's diverse vaccine portfolio. The primary purpose of this job role is to function as a senior member of the HSLS team, providing logistical support to clinical study teams for phase I - IV clinical trials. One of the main focuses of this role will be to function as the technology solutions liaison between the Research Informatics team and the HSLS team in managing and influencing database enhancement opportunities. The candidate will provide guidance to and/or may lead/co-lead moderately complex projects, supporting sample availability activities. The candidate will manage their own time to meet timelines and objectives, and will forecast and plan resource requirements (people, financial and technology) for projects within VRD. The candidate will oversee direct reports, managing their career growth and development, and will work in a team setting sharing roles and responsibilities as assigned by the team leader/manager.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The candidate will perform job responsibilities in compliance with GxP and all other regulatory agency requirements.
  • The candidate will function as a liaison and lead the efforts between the HSLS team and the Research Informatics team in implementing new and updated LIMS database functionalities. They will function as the HSLS technological subject matter expert (SME), gathering and providing user requirements, attending demo sessions, training the HSLS team on LIMS enhancements, and establishing a standard communication platform between HSLS & RI. They will track and trend support tickets and provide inputs to senior leadership on resources needed.
  • The candidate will actively share knowledge with others within HSLS through existing knowledge sharing processes/systems.
  • Provide support for questions and resolve issues from global study teams on the sample management and handling process, including the process for sample collection, sample processing, storage, shipping, and logistics. Attend all study team meetings on an ongoing basis to maintain awareness of any issues in the individual studies that may affect HSLS and address the issues proactively with the study teams.
  • The candidate will act in the role of study point of contact for assigned studies in Pfizer's vaccine portfolio. This entails acting as an intermediary between HSLS (sample management) lab analysts and clinical study teams and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) in resolving sample shipment discrepancies and representing the SM team at cross-functional study team meetings.
  • The candidate will interface between clinical operations program lead/clinical operations study team leads, study management/data management across programs and Vaccine Research High Throughput Clinical Testing (VR-HCID) to ensure clear communication and issue resolution regarding sample data as well as immunogenicity testing data.
  • The candidate will identify existing process/product improvements and may take appropriate risks to develop innovative ideas/processes/ products and advance new concepts that improve the department's work processes/products.
  • The candidate will collaborate with a team of managers and collaborate across functional lines to develop and implement process improvements and build efficiencies for daily lab activities and process flow.
  • The candidate will participate in the hiring process (resume reviewing, interviewing, and scheduling) and the onboarding process for new and incoming SM colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or related scientific field. (Advanced Degree a plus).
  • At least 7+ years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well within the team and across different functional units.
  • Strong organizational and coordinating skills.
  • Proven track record of effectively leading teams of individuals. Prior managerial experience required.
  • Should be self-motivated, taking the initiative to lead projects and develop and execute a pre-determined plan.
  • Should possess the ability to multi-task and align priorities with program objectives.
  • Needs to have solid decision-making skills and be able to resolve moderately complex problems.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
