In 2022, Spark Therapeutics broke ground on a new manufacturing facility, The Gene Therapy Innovation Center (GTIC). GTIC is a multipurpose center of excellence that supports gene therapy programs across the Spark and Roche network through clinical and commercial manufacturing, quality control labs, office space, and appropriate expansion space to facilitate future growth. Currently, engineering design work is ongoing to bring this facility to life.

As a Manufacturing Science and Technology co-op or intern, this role would provide the opportunity to assist with the design of the manufacturing facility. The role will introduce the student to single-use technology in the pharmaceutical industry by providing critical support to the design of single-use assemblies, which will ultimately be used in GMP manufacturing. The design work will include generating single-use diagrams and verifying specifications for multiple upstream and downstream assemblies. Additionally, this role will help define and document the Bill of Materials for each unit operation used. This role will require regular communication with single-use vendors and cross-functional internal teams. This role will provide insight to both upstream and downstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
