ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join the Cellular Genomics Group in Systems Immunology, part of the Inflammation & Immunology Research Unit. This person will be responsible for devising, verifying, and executing single-cell spatial transcriptomic and proteomic platforms to support drug development in Inflammation and Immunology's portfolio areas. Specifically, this role will carry out the lab and analysis components (i.e. wet and dry lab work) of in-house single-cell spatial 'omics projects, including the design and execution of lab experiments, computational analysis of generated data, and preparation of related records and reports. The successful candidate must have experience in sample collection, routine Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) processes, molecular biology, and bioinformatic analysis related to single-cell spatial sequencing. The perfect candidate will demonstrate close attention to detail, effective reasoning, and problem-solving competencies in experimental design.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the growth of single-cell spatial multiomic technology in drug development by engaging in the development, execution, validation, and troubleshooting of single-cell and spatial multiomic assays, including single-cell sequencing and single cell spatial analysis (e.g. 10X Visium or Xenium /Vizgen MerScope/Nanostring GeoMx or CosMx).
  • Perform operations of single cell/spatial analysis workflows; from tissue storage, sample preparation, data generation, and analysis for the interpretation of results, ensuring high level of quality and reliability of results produced.
  • Implement testing and optimization of tissue stabilization, embedding, sectioning, dissociation, and purification protocols.
  • Leverage advanced computational and statistical methods to analyze complex spatial multiomic datasets, facilitating the discovery of new therapeutic targets, enhancing comprehension of disease mechanisms and causal pathways, and aiding drug development.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot multiomic spatial library preparation.
  • Utilize available resources to achieve timely execution of projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams (internal and external) to execute plans and deliverables.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for spatial & single-cell analysis technology, provide guidance on experimental design, method or platform selection, data analysis, and interface with in-house imaging and spatial specialists.
  • Educate other scientists, provide hands-on training, and give internal and external presentations.
  • Learn various spatial & single-cell analysis platforms, remain knowledgeable of scientific and technical innovations, and follow new trends and developments in genomic technologies to uphold the department's competitive advantage.
  • Compose experimental plans, validation reports, work instructions and SOPs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Biology or other related discipline with 0-3 years of experience or MS with 5+ years of relevant molecular and cellular biology experience
  • Extensive hands-on molecular biology protocol and NGS technology expertise required
  • Must have at least 3 years of documented hands-on (wet lab) experience with NGS assay development, validation, troubleshooting, and reviewing of sample QC data
  • Must have in-depth knowledge with different standard NGS platforms pipelines, as well as bioinformatics skills, including programing in R/python (or any other language), experience with command line, and familiarity with statistical software packages.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1+ year of hands-on spatial transcriptomics & single-cell sequencing experience (data generation and analysis)
  • Previous experience with tissue sectioning and high-throughput in situ hybridization and/or immunohistochemistry
  • Extensive knowledge of spatial transcriptomics platforms (10X Visium or Xenium/ Vizgen MerScope/ Nanostring GeoMx or CosMx) is greatly preferred.
  • Experience with computational and statistical approaches for high-dimensional data analysis is a plus.
