Role Description

This position will be responsible for supporting drug discovery by performing in vitro experiments to assess the off-target pharmacology of novel compounds using both cellular and biochemical assays. In addition the role will include performing ex vivo functional tissue bath studies.

Responsibilities

Work independently and as part of a team to help design, execute, analyze / interpret data generated from experiments ranging from in vitro cell based to functional tissue bath assays. Specific duties to include:
  • Apply scientific knowledge in running early in-vitro safety screening assays (384 well plate based; medium throughput) using a range of in vitro cell based, enzyme assays and transporter assays.
  • In addition the role is expected to grow to include performing ex vivo functional tissue bath studies and isolated Langendorff perfused heart (previous experience preferred, but not required). These assays are collectively used by research project teams to address off-target safety issues and help guide chemistry design.
  • Keep detailed experimental records and prepare study summaries and technical reports.
  • Have a working knowledge of analysis tools such as Excel, GraphPad, Biobook and PowerPoint for experimental documentation and data analysis/presentations.
  • Contribute to building an innovative culture that embraces scientific excellence, urgency, partnerships with key stakeholders, continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base and in vitro expertise; take a proactive role in personal growth and scientific development.


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus 3 years' laboratory experience in Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Pharmacology (or related field).
  • Previous experience running cell/enzyme based assay platforms in a medium throughput environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Functional ex vivo tissue bath experience (Previous experience preferred; a willingness to learn essential)
  • Basic working knowledge of receptor pharmacology principles
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills as well as ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. Team player attitude is a must.Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to follow pre-established experimental designs, as well as ability to develop new protocols and methods with aptitude to troubleshoot problems in an independent manner.
