Department Information

The Neuroscience of Mind and Behavior Lab (NiMBLe), located within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University, research incorporates behavioral, cognitive, and neuroimaging (fMRI) research to identify the mechanisms by which social cognition changes over the lifespan in healthy and pathological aging. We are also interested in research related to stigma associated with mental al illness and addiction. Our research uses behavioral and social neuroscience approaches to understand social cognition (the manner in which people process, store, and apply information about others), and how it changes over the lifespan. Our current projects examine how healthy and pathological (e.g., Alzheimer's disease) aging affect social cognition.

The core mission of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington is to unlock the mysteries of the human brain and behavior, and to prepare students to apply that knowledge to improve the lives of people around the globe. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion as core strengths and essential elements of research, teaching, and service; and we are committed to broadening interactions among students, faculty, and staff that allow us to learn from our differences and to reexamine deeply held assumptions about ourselves and the world. As a part of the College of Arts and Sciences (The College), we are a highly multidisciplinary department, with faculty and students carrying out research ranging from molecular neuroscience to artificial intelligence. We currently have over 70 full-time faculty, more than 30 department-serving staff members, 100 graduate students, 1800 undergraduate majors, 750 undergraduate minors, and offer nine different undergraduate credentials, including a BS / BA in Psychology, a BS in Neuroscience, a BS in Organizational and Business Psychology, and certificate in Clinical Science.
