Description
The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE 1:1 Nurse at River Bluff Middle School to sub when the school nurse is absent.

Summary: The Special Needs Nurse is responsible for working 1:1 with a student with complex medical conditions to provide support while in the school environment including on school transportation and school sponsored field trips/activities.

Essential Job Functions:
Note: Responsibilities will vary depending on the abilities of the student.
1. Work collaboratively with school personnel to provide for the health needs of the assigned student in order to enable a supportive learning environment.
2. Assume responsibility for own professional development and continuing education and contribute to the professional growth of others through in-service and health education activities.

Other Duties May Include:
1. Provide for the physical, educational and personal needs of the student with complex medical needs
2. Responsible for assessment and intervention of complex health and medical needs including respiratory status, seizure management, G-tube feedings, positioning/transfers, student communication, etc. based on the nursing process
3. Coordinate day to day educational program, implementing lesson plans and making decisions about medical, educational and personal priorities in accordance with the IEP and IHP
4. Commitment to and responsible for integration efforts on a daily basis
5. Provide emergency care as needed and notify appropriate personnel including parents and health care providers
6. Administer medications and perform nursing procedures as needed
7. Assist the student in specialized physical education and other related activities
8. Maintain, set-up, clean, sort supplies and equipment for the student's physical environment
9. Follow district and health services guidelines and emergency protocols for students

Education and/or Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited program.
2. Registered Nurse in good standing in the State of Wisconsin.
3. Experience in child health care or previous school nurse experience. Prior experience with children with complex medical conditions/needs
4. Familiarity with the Nurse Practice Act and other pieces of legislation which are applicable to school nursing.
5. Current CPR and First Aid or BLS certification
6. Tracheostomy certification preferred.
7. Valid driver's license
8. Ability to work and interact effectively with others.
9. Ability to independently organize and manage time and resources.
10. Excellent communication skills in order to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community
11. Ability to effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
12. Must maintain patient confidentiality.

Requirements of Essential Functions: This position requires the ability to stand, sit and move from place to place. May have to lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, crouching, crawling and twisting. Visual requirements include the ability to distinguish colors, frequent demands for near acuity, sharpness of vision, depth perception and field of vision and occasional demands for far acuity. Frequent use of verbal auditory sources of information, frequent use of non-verbal sources of information and occasional need to hear sounds and voices with background noise. Will continuously use oral and written communication to perform work. May occasionally experience job stress and be required to perform activities requiring sustained concentration. May need to work with interruptions. Frequently will make decisions in the absence of specific directions. May experience variable and unpredictable situations.

Constant (66%-100%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, squatting, reaching, and walking in order to perform essential functions.

Lifting: 0-30 pounds constantly (66-100%)
30-40 pounds frequently (34-66%)
Over 40 pounds occasionally (1-33%)

Environment: This job primarily operates in a professional indoor environment but may also include some outdoor responsibilities.
