Role Description

As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting drug discovery by designing, implementing, and troubleshooting in vitro experiments to assess the off-target pharmacology of novel compounds using both cellular and biochemical assays. With your deep knowledge of the discipline, you will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor who routinely partners with and mentors junior colleagues within the group.

Responsibilities
  • Leads the development, optimization, and execution of in vitro pharmacology studies. Mentor junior scientists to do the same.
  • Collaborates with cross-disciplinary teams, and has strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strives to grow scientifically. Leads or collaborates with others on departmental technology initiatives and contributes to current scientific literature.
  • Be a technical leader that can provide feedback to supervisor and project teams. Contribution to study reports to be used for internal decision making and regulatory filings.

Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or related field, with at least 2 years of pharmaceutical experience and a solid record of high-quality publications. Educational requirements may be adjusted in the case of extensive, applicable laboratory experience.
  • Experience in the drug discovery process. Previous experience running cell/enzyme-based assay platforms in a 384-well environment. Experience using plate-based instrumentation (liquid handling, fluorescent plate readers, plate-based scintillation counters) is essential.
  • Eagerness to learn new laboratory techniques. Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of receptor pharmacology principles and ion channel physiology.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills as well as ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple experiments to achieve aggressive weekly timelines.
  • Proficiency in basic software (e.g., MS Office, Graphpad) and strong data analysis skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with managing and/or conducting studies with CROs.
  • Experience with the following platforms: FLIPR, Agilent BRAVO, Sophion QUBE, PerkinElmer EnVision, Microbeta radiometric plate reader, Nanion Cardioexcyte 96, PerkinElmer Signals.
  • Experience working with hIPSC Cardiomyocytes (extended culture and use in assays).
