What You Will Achieve

The position of Principal Scientist - As part of an interdisciplinary team, will provide scientific leadership, to improve Pfizer's commercial bioprocesses, through the design and delivery of downstream purification, reaction engineering, and high throughput screening technologies. These projects are based on microbial fermentation, biotransformation, and biocatalysis.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Develop and improve bioprocess-based pharmaceutical isolation and purification.
  • Optimize reaction systems employing whole cells, or free / immobilized enzymes.
  • Assist in the scale up of developed processes and provide technical support for commercial biopharmaceutical manufacture.
  • Champion the implementation of new technologies to ensure we deliver or exceed project targets.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based laboratory environment.
  • Independently determine and develop experimental programs and participate in setting project objectives.
  • Supervise one or more lab staff to maximize lab productivity.


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • Applicant must have HS Diploma with ten years of relevant experience;
  • OR an Associate's degree with eight years of experience;
  • OR a Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience;
  • OR a Master's degree with more than three years of experience;
  • OR a Ph.D. with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Experience in related fields preferably in industry-based bioprocess research.
  • Results oriented with a proven track record of accomplishments.
  • Proven innovative and creative problem-solving skills, able to motivate others to exceed goals and deliver results.
  • Ability to design robust experiments and to accurately analyze, interpret, follow-up and communicate experimental data, conclusions, limitations, and recommendations.
  • Must be able to establish productive colleague relationships which foster collaboration and cooperation.
  • Change agile - can effectively cope and excel with change.


Nice to Have
  • Experience in the purification of fermentation / biotransformation derived small molecules.
  • Background or interest in applying Green Chemistry approaches, working with synthetic organic chemists to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (API).
  • Experience in High Throughput Screening for culture / enzyme selection (i.e. FADS, Microfluidics)


Physical/Mental Requirements

This is a lab-based position: Frequent standing and walking, frequent detailed manual manipulations, and computer-based work.

First shift position - some overtime and/or weekend work may be required.
