ASSOCIATE DEAN OF STUDENTS, Dean of Students & Division of Student Affairs Tracking Code23500579160131Job Description
A member of the Associate Provost & Dean of Students leadership team, the Associate Dean of Students is a strategic partner within the Division of Student Affairs and is responsible for coordinating our efforts to promulgate a sense of belonging throughout a diverse, residential learning environment. The staff member will articulate and execute a vision for engaging various populations of students, parents and families. To this end, the Associate Dean is responsible for overseeing a robust community development portfolio including the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground (HTC), Parent & Family Programs, Student Belonging & Engagement and New Student Orientation. The Associate Dean will be a present, accessible and visionary leader capable of forging new collaborations across Boston University's campuses to ensure that all students feel seen, heard and served. The Associate Dean will play a key role in the ongoing design of our visionary strategic plan, BU2030, by imaging a community, big yet small, which seeks to create an inclusive academic community where students feel seen, heard and validated. This includes launching co-curricular programs and services that reflect the intersectional nature of identity and designing opportunities to build communities within and across these identity groups where they can explore their uniqueness and shared humanity, and overseeing the creation of the next chapter in the evolution of the HTC.

As a thought partner for the Dean, the Associate Dean will contribute to the overall vision and execution of our signature Orientation program for incoming first-year students and parents, and will work in tandem with the Directors of the respective departments to construct a world-class experience that is centered on belonging and engagement. With an understanding of the rhythm of the academic year, the Associate Dean will inspire and catalyze the ongoing engagement of parents and families throughout the academic journey of their student. Additionally, the Associate Dean will work in tandem with the Deans leadership team to advance the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across the Division of Student Affairs. This includes chairing committees, conducting assessments and developing initiatives that capitalize on the natural synergies within the Division.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in higher education, or similar field, coupled with no less than ten years of related professional experience in student affairs or diversity, equity and inclusion. Non-traditional work hours may be required during peak periods such as the opening of school, Commencement, etc.

Position will become available July 1, 2023.
