Job Description:

The University of Florida's Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics is a vibrant group of faculty, staff, and trainees working towards impactful discoveries in pharmacology. The Department is ranked #12 in the Nation by BRIMR in NIH funding (2023) at the University of Florida currently ranked as the #5 public University (US News and World Report, 2022-2023), and is seeking a scholar-leader with an outstanding and widely recognized research program for the position of Vice Chair for Research. The Vice Chair for Research will represent the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics in several collaborative research areas across the College of Medicine and University of Florida with the overall goal to energize scientific discovery and research career development in the Department.

Responsibilities of the Vice Chair for Research will be to work in partnership with the Chair and faculty in the Department, to 1) Provide leadership and coordination of the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics fundamental and translational research programs, 2) Support research career development of faculty and trainees alike, 3) Promote collaboration among Department faculty within the College of Medicine and University more broadly, 4) Create a strategic review of the Department research portfolio and research funding portfolio to identify strategic opportunities for growth, faculty recruitment, and enhancement.

Other responsibilities include:

1. Serve as a critical Departmental liaison to the faculty with the College of Medicine Office of Research, UF Research, Center for Clinical and Translational Science, etc.

2. Maintain data retention policies and provide education and resources to ensure Department of UF Research, research dry and wet laboratory compliance.

3. Support the recruitment and professional development of fundamental and translational science-oriented faculty.

4. Provide oversight to Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, administration to ensure effective use of all assigned space.

5. Provide oversight to the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics faculty in liaising with institutional regulatory and support offices, including offices of safety, animal care, clinical research, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

6. Facilitate the growth of the Department's research portfolio, including identifying or creating conditions for groups that could apply for T-grants, F-grants, P/U or similar grants at the fundamental, clinical and/or translational levels.

7. Evaluate key indicators of research performance and make recommendations on how to improve indicators, where appropriate. Key indicators include indirect cost returns, research revenue, research funds/square foot, success rate, awarded grants, and impact.

8. Represent the Department on research issues within the Department, College, and University. This includes service on committees as assigned.

9. Provide updates to Chair, faculty and others related to funding opportunities, new developments within the NIH and other sponsors, etc.

10. Participate in departmental faculty meetings, Vice Chair meetings, Division Chiefs and College of Medicine Research meetings.

Any other duties, as needed, to fulfill the mission of the Department.

Expected Salary:

The salary range is $167,000 - $255,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
