The Elaine Marieb College of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst prepares students at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels to practice in a wide variety of healthcare settings and develops nursing leaders and researchers to educate future generations. Our faculty members draw on their advanced clinical skills and innovative research in their teaching to prepare students for their careers by using state-of-the-art technology and techniques.

Job Description

We are inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research (ADR) at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Reporting to the Dean, the ADR is a visionary leader that provides strategic direction for the research mission in the college of nursing and for the growth and sustainability of quality research and scholarly activities for all faculty. The ADR role is a faculty, nine-month academic-year position, with additional summer compensation as determined by summer effort. Professional rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The ADR also serves on various campus and community committees, may assume the leadership role in the absence of the Dean, and performs other responsibilities as assigned for the effective and efficient operation of the College.

Essential Functions
  • (55%) College of Nursing Administration
    • Comprehensive coordination and administration of all research-related matters relating to faculty and students, advising, management of research budget, reporting, proposal development, PI training and support, and mentorship for the development of a program of scholarship for both Tenure-Track and Non-Tenure-Track faculty.
    • As the Administrator for Research and Engagement for the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, the ADR provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the research mission of the College and for the growth and sustainability of quality research and scholarly activities. Leadership activities include scholarship and research program development, advancing externally funded grants, research training programs, and faculty and student mentorship programs to support research development.
  • (15%) Teaching
    • While the regular assignment of classroom teaching courses as a faculty member is suspended during this administrative appointment, your leadership in the following teaching areas is key to the success of the college:
      • Foster excellence in the scholarship of teaching.
      • Teaching courses within the baccalaureate and graduate programs as needed.
      • Collaborating with other faculty in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating teaching/learning strategies and curricula [244 CMR 6.04(4)(a)].
  • (10%) Provide service for the achievement of College goals
    • Participation as an active member of various College and University, College Faculty Assembly, and annual retreats as well as participation in the systematic evaluation of the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs (244 CMR 6.04(1)(e)].
    • Assisting with and representing the College at orientation, registration, and graduation activities for incoming and graduating students.
    • Initiating recommendations for additional resources and changes according to College needs.
    • Participation in the hiring and selection of faculty of the college through attendance at candidate presentations.
  • (20%) Scholarship
    • Engage in an active program of research/scholarship.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

Qualified candidates must possess an earned research doctorate in nursing or a health-related field and experience in graduate nursing scholarship, a record of research productivity in extramural funding, and publication in top-tiered nursing and health-related journals. The successful candidate will exhibit a willingness to be innovative and will be committed to interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborative efforts. Must possess a record of achievement appropriate for appointment as a tenured faculty member.

Additional Information

This role will tentatively begin in January 2023.
