Description:

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine is seeking a Director for Clinical Chemistry. This will be a faculty position with an academic appointment in the rank of Assistant to Associate Professor in Clinical Track. The Tulane Medical Center includes three hospitals in the New Orleans area, each of which has a clinical laboratory supporting the hospital's clinical activity. The responsibility of the Director of Clinical Chemistry will include overseeing the medical needs of the clinical chemistry or the core laboratory, fulfilling the regulatory requirement for the quality management of the clinical operation, developing and/or validating new laboratory tests, and working with the laboratory staff, hospital administration and physicians to ensure a successful, collaborative and patient care-centered laboratory service. It is critical that the candidate will also devote a significant amount of time for the teaching of pathology residents, medical students and graduate students in the Department's education programs. Scholastic works including research is strongly encouraged. Both strong technical acumen and inter-personal communication skill are needed for the successful accomplishment of the work.

Qualifications:

M.D. and/or PhD with a proper training and certification. Training may include a Clinical Pathology Residency training in an ACGME-accredited program, or a Clinical Chemistry fellowship training in a ComACC-accredited program or the equivalent. Certification by, or eligibility for, ABP (for Clinical Pathology/Chemical Pathology), or ABCC (for Clinical Chemistry), or the equivalent, is required. Experience in managing a clinical chemistry laboratory and teaching residents is desired but not essential.
