Summary:
The Associate Dean of Students is a 12-month, full-time, exempt position with the option to live on campus or off campus. Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students serves as a leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of campus activities, housing, and residence life. This position builds relationships with students, faculty, and staff to promote a positive and supportive campus environment. The Associate Dean of Students assists with student conduct issues and serves as an impartial facilitator in supporting, and in some cases, resolving undergraduate student academic, personal welfare, and financial matters. Given the nature of this role, the Associate Dean of Students interacts with various campus departments and community-based agencies as well as faculty, staff, and student guardian/family members.

Essential Functions:

Housing & Residence Life:
  • Oversees all aspects of residence life, including recruitment and selection of professional and paraprofessional staff, community engagement, health and safety inspections, and administrative tasks.
  • Directly responsible for all housing operations functions: room assignment management that includes administration of student records to support housing processes, plan and implement housing sign-ups and roommate matching, project room rates, and provide all reports associated with housing operations.

Directly supervises Community Hall Directors and Assistant Community Hall Directors.

Assists in the coordination of the Student Life Department's response to major crises and other unusual events within the campus community.

Researches, evaluates, and recommends changes in rules, regulations, and policies as related to the student experience.

Student Engagement:
  • Provides direction and supervision to staff responsible for student engagement and organizational leadership.
    Provides leadership, mentoring, and oversight of the Student Government Association (SGA).

    Regularly assesses the impact of the division's efforts on student engagement, development, and success.

    Is a visible and active participant in campus life.

Student Support:
  • Assists students in reaching settlement of their informal requests or complaints through consultation, mediation, and counseling; refers issues with a formal avenue of redress to appropriate offices for resolution.
    Works with appropriate College officials to facilitate satisfactory solutions to issues and problems that fall within the responsibilities of the Dean of Students Office. Advises the Dean of Students on complaints with no definitive remedy and makes recommendations for resolution. Serves as a member of campus committees related to student welfare and other aspects related to student status.
  • Serves on the Behavioral Intervention Team.
  • Assists with matters pertaining to student conduct and case management.

    Serves on administrative on-call rotation.

    Qualifications, Required Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, or related field required.
    Previous professional (post-graduate) student life and supervisory experience required.

    Experience with emergency response to on-campus situations.

    Demonstrated skills in the following areas: supervision, organization, collaboration, crisis management, leadership, teamwork, and assessment.

    Knowledge of student development and leadership development theories.

    Ability to lift 25 pounds.

    Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs.
