Job Summary:

Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes Adult Clinic has an opening for a full-time (100% FTE) Research Director of the Adult Diabetes Division (Open Rank: Associate Professor to Professor). The position will be located at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes on the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a full-time Diabetologist/Endocrinologist at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to work in the Adult Division. The Center provides state-of-the-art diabetes care to over 2,500 adults with type 1 diabetes or insulin requiring type 2 diabetes. This is a position requiring an enthusiasm for medical research and knowledge or interest in type 1 diabetes. A combination of previous clinical and research experience, diverse talents and excellent interpersonal skills is required.

The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) is the largest diabetes institute in the world specializing in type 1 diabetes research and care for children and adults. Over 200 employees, including clinicians, clinical researchers, basic biomedical scientists and supporting staff work at the BDC to find the most effective treatment, prevention, and/or cure for type 1 diabetes. This tenure-eligible position offers an exceptional opportunity for a talented clinician and researcher.

Supervision Received - This position reports to Director, BDC Division of Adult Diabetes.

Supervision Provided - Research faculty and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Manage the BDC Adult Division clinical research team. Build new programs with creativity and independent vision. Provide leadership for diabetes research in the areas of technology, prevention, clinical care, etc. Serve as a research mentor for junior faculty. Provide guidance in areas including but not limited to research applications, regulatory compliance, analysis, and publications. Identify areas for improvement, make recommendations, and lead initiatives to increase productivity and advance quality in research. Educate patients in diabetes management. Provide diabetes care to newly diagnosed and established adult patients with type 1 diabetes. Assist in organizing and co-directing ATDC annual Keystone conference. Contribute to the development and improvement of the one-year adult diabetes fellowship program. Contribute to ongoing research projects and compete for new research grants. Represent the Adult Clinical Research division in BDC strategic planning meetings. Work with the division director regarding finances. Commitment to an academic career in diabetes clinical care and research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Associate Professor
Education: Terminal degree in Medicine (M.D.) licensed to practice in the United States. Experience: Graduation from an accredited Residency program and 7+ years' experience. Special Skills: Ability to obtain Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate. Ability to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care. Ability to meet the School of Medicine's criteria for associate professor. Strong track record as Principal Investigator for clinical research grants (industry or non-profits like NIH, JDRF, ADA or Helmsley research grants).
Professor
Education: Terminal degree in Medicine (M.D.) licensed to practice in the United States. Experience: Graduation from an accredited Residency program and 10+ years' experience. Special Skills: Ability to obtain a Colorado Medical License and certified or certification eligible with the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Ability to meet the School of Medicine's criteria for full professor. Strong track record as Principal Investigator for clinical research grants (industry or non-profits like NIH, JDRF, ADA or Helmsley research grants).
Preferred Qualifications (for both ranks):
Clinical experience in caring for adults with diabetes and experience in clinical research. Completion of endocrine fellowship or one year diabetes fellowship desired. Demonstrated success in research, including peer reviewed publications, leadership roles in career development and/or training programs. Experience or interest in education and research and faculty development. Experience with using an electronic health record system, preferably Epic.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as:

    Associate Professor: The hiring range for this position has been established at $205,000 - 225,000 plus the possibility of incentives based on clinical FTE. The Medical Director position comes with a $15,000 stipend.

    Professor: The hiring range for this position has been established at $225,000 - 250,000 plus the possibility of incentives based on clinical FTE. The Medical Director position comes with a $15,000 stipend.

    The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
