Nature of Work

This faculty position serves as the Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship Office of the Senior Associate Dean (SAD) of Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer which resides in the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The office of the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer (CWO) is a newly established unit within the School of Medicine. This unit oversees faculty affairs, faculty and leadership development programs, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. The unit also develops pioneering programs in the field of faculty well-being.

The Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship is a strategic partner to the SAD and is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining faculty development and advancing health professions educational research across the SOM. The Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship will work with faculty, external partners, and subject matter experts to develop and deliver curricula that are pragmatic and include multimedia and multimodal content, online courses/modules, webinars, and in-person workshops. Additionally, the Director will advance and increase the visibility of health professions research at the SOM by educating and supporting medical education scholars, engaging in educational research, and participating in professional activities that enhance the school's reputation.

The Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship works closely with the SAD and other school leaders to fulfill the unit's goals and objectives while ensuring that the unit operates in accordance with university policies and procedures and School of Medicine (SOM) rules.

Examples of Work Performed

Overall
Provide operational and leadership support to the SAD. Support strategic planning for faculty development and educational research at the SOM. Provide faculty with consultation and educational resources in domains of mentorship, faculty development, education portfolio, and education scholarship Develop and implement internal and external communications related to faculty development and education research, including leverage of social media and other communication strategies to raise awareness of faculty development offerings and faculty accomplishments within education Maintain and oversee faculty development office operations, including managing vendor relationships, partner with finance on budget issues, and developing performance goals and reviews for direct reports
Faculty development
Develop and implement an effective, pragmatic faculty development curriculum, leveraging a variety of educational design Assist in developing and sustaining the scope and mission of the Academy of Medical Educators, including developing, implementing, and maintaining application process, providing faculty development offerings, building community, and promoting and tracking member engagement Database management for faculty development resources related to education, leadership development, and diversity
Educational Research
  • Promote and support educational research by building capacity in others to conduct educational research and publishing educational research
  • Develop intramural education innovation grants, including application process, selection committee, accountability process, and ROI calculation
  • Build connections across educators within the SOM and outside of the SOM to advance visibility of educational research
  • Obtain extramural educational research funding.

Salary and Benefits:

The final FTE/effort will be negotiated between the finalist and the SAD, Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer; it is anticipated to be 80% or greater.

Assistant Professor:

The salary range for this position has been established at $120,000 - $ 145,000

Associate Professor:

The salary range for this position has been established at $130,000 - $ 160,000

Professor:

The salary range for this position has been established at $145,000 - $ 175,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Assistant Professor:
  • Master's degree in education, health profession education, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level experience in educational development that included curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Three (3) of experience in education research
  • Faculty appointment or eligibility for appointment in the School of Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor

Associate Professor:
  • Master's degree in education, health profession education, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level experience in educational development that included curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Three (3) of experience in education research
  • Faculty appointment or eligibility for appointment in the School of Medicine at the rank of Associate Professor

Professor:
  • Master's degree in education, health profession education, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level experience in educational development that included curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Three (3) of experience in education research
  • Faculty appointment or eligibility for appointment in the School of Medicine at the rank of Professor

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in health professions education or Doctor of Education
  • Experience working in a health care or academic medical setting
  • Ten (10) or more years of curriculum development and education research
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in faculty development
  • Five (5) or more years of experience successfully developing infrastructure and programming in support of faculty development
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and mentoring a diverse cross-section of people and responsibilities
  • Faculty appointment or eligibility for appointment in the School of Medicine at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Overall
  • Lead strategic educational projects, including identifying issues for strategic development, developing strategies or project plans containing, assembling a team with shared understanding of purposes and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluating educational projects (objectives, deliverables, effort, cost, time planning and project performance), recognizing potential undesirable consequences and responding to them
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to plan, execute, monitor, and control projects
  • Able to establish work priorities and provide follow through to insure completion of activities, both personally and in subordinates.

Faculty development
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement faculty development, including analyzing and identifying needs in collaboration with stakeholders, considering different levels of faculty (e.g., junior vs. senior, clinical vs. nonclinical), creating opportunities for faculty development including ones focused to educational scholars, and leveraging certificates and other mechanisms to promote engagement
  • Skillful in instructional design, including attention to theoretical foundations while attending to local context of learners (faculty), physical constraints, rules and regulations, hybrid and online learning environments, and financial limitations.
  • Well versed in teaching, facilitating, and evaluating learning among adults, including teaching using a variety of pedagogical methods and techniques, employing various materials and media, promoting an inclusive learning climate, and incorporating feedback from learners.

Educational Research
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting and disseminating educational research
  • Expertise in qualitative or quantitative research methods
