Nature of Work
The position serves as the Director, Academy of Medical Educators in the Office of the Senior Associate Dean (SAD) of Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer which resides in the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer (CWO) is a newly established unit within the School of Medicine. This unit oversees faculty affairs, faculty and leadership development programs, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. The unit also develops pioneering programs in the field of faculty well-being.

The Director, Academy of Medical Educators is a strategic partner to the SAD and is responsible for rebuilding and leading the Academy of Medical Educators, and, in collaboration with the Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship, developing the teaching faculty and promoting engagement and excellence in medical education research. The Director, Academy of Medical Educators will oversee all aspects of programming that inspires faculty to advance their ability to teach learners, design innovative curriculum, implement evidence-based educational practices, excel in educational leadership roles, and conduct and disseminate educational research. The Director, Academy of Medical Educators will also facilitate a collaborative community of educators, build recognition of educators, and advocate for faculty educators needs.
The Director, Academy of Medical Educators works closely with the SAD, the Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship, and other school leaders to fulfill the unit's goals and objectives while ensuring that the unit operates in accordance with university policies and procedures and School of Medicine (SOM) rules.

Support Medical Education Research
This description is a summary only and is describing the general level of work being performed, it is not intended to be all-inclusive. Reporting: Director, Academy of Medical Educators reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Chief Well-being Officer.
Supervisory responsibility: Faculty in their work related to the Teaching Scholars Program and the Residents and Fellows as Educators Program. Administrative support within the Academy of Medical Educators.
Resources: Incremental investments to support the growth and development of the Academy has been secured through 2026-27 and include resources for faculty, staff, operating expenses, video services, IT, educational research, open access fees, and professional travel. Pre-award services are available to assist with grant preparation, review, approvals, and submission. Additional investments and the timing of staff/faculty hiring are contingent on sufficient progress toward goals and subject to budget capacity and School of Medicine approvals.
Salary and Benefits:
The final FTE/effort will be negotiated between the finalist and the SAD of Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer; it is anticipated to be 30-50%. The salary range for this position has been established at $120,000 - $175,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

- Provide operational and leadership support to the SAD. Support strategic planning for faculty development and educational research at the SOM.
- Provide faculty with consultation regarding careers in medical education
- Lead the Academy of Medical Educators Create, implement, and maintain a new criterion-based, tiered application and review process that builds a teaching portfolio aligned with academic promotion criteria
Support Medical Education Research
- Lead and co-build/co-teach curricula focused on medical education research in collaboration with the Director, Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship
- Mentor faculty engaged in medical education research
- Develop, support, and oversee intramural education-related grant programs
- Enhance the visibility of CU SOM educational research

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Physician or PhD with experience in health professions education
- Eligible for rank at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the rank of Associate Professor or higher
- Experience working in an academic medical setting
- Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level experience in faculty development of medical educators
- Medical education related peer-reviewed publications
Preferred Qualifications
- Ten (10) or more years of experience teaching medical students or residents/fellows
- Five (5) or more years of experience in faculty development
- Five (5) or more years of experience successfully developing infrastructure and programming related to medical education
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and mentoring a diverse cross-section of people and responsibilities
- National reputation in medical education
- Advanced training in medical education, certificate or Master's program
