Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):

The mission of the Automotive Department at Pueblo Community College is to provide each student with the skills and knowledge to become productive employees in the industry. The Automotive department of Pueblo Community College strives to provide automotive classroom and laboratory learning experiences that respect the diversity of our students.

Job Summary Statement (brief summary of overall responsibility of position):

All faculty job descriptions incorporate and utilize the principles and tools of continuous improvement by and through the assessment of student learning. This position specifically exist to provide classroom, laboratory, or related instruction under the supervision of the Department Chair and is responsible for planning and providing student instruction in accordance with approved syllabi, curriculum guidelines, and required program standards. Faculty must adhere to the laws, policies, procedures, rules, and applications which govern and affect the college, including the fiscal rules of the State of Colorado.

In addition to faculty responsibilities, faculty are also expected to support and assist with student orientations, advising, and registration. Absences will be minimal and only for appropriate cause; notification of supervisor is required. Faculty must provide coverage or obtain approval for class cancellation according to PCC policy. Two personal days per year are available with approval. Refer to PCC Operational Procedures and Protocols for further information.

Faculty are expected to model professionalism in dress, action, and communication. Accordingly, faculty are obliged to respond professionally to constructive feedback and to follow the chain of command in resolving conflicts. This faculty member will become an important member of a highly functioning team of Automotive Service educators dedicated to student learning and directly involved in activities both in and outside of classes that help students attain the highest level of learning experience possible.

Job Duties

Essential Functions:
  • Teaches courses as assigned within faculty work load guidelines and meets all scheduled classes unless the class has been canceled or with the permission of the Chairperson. Assists in the evaluation and implementation of the approved program curriculum and instructional processes and strives to meet those standards with available resources. Must use the learning management system for all classes for syllabus, grades and attendance. Manage shop operations for the Automotive Department to include accounting for receipts and submission of monthly financial statements. Serves as a substitute within the program for absent colleagues for short-term absences as determined by Department Chair, Coordinator, or Dean. Provides adequate supervision of students under instructor's assignment and classroom management in conjunctions with department, division, and PCC polices. Supervises and enforces appropriate safety procedures for laboratories, clinics and other environments, facilities, and operation which are part of the program. Maintains a work schedule as agreed upon by the supervisor and in concert with the state and faculty workload policy (at least a forty-hour work week with a minimum of 30 hours on campus, which can include co-ops or off-campus assignments.)
  • Is available for duty during orientation, advising, and registration periods during the academic year and assists in the recruitment process for the assigned program. Participates in college committee assignments, but shall not be required to serve on more than one college standing committees or boards per academic year.
  • Maintains regularly scheduled office hours (a minimum of five per week) for consultation or advisement with students. Performs student advisement and registration responsibilities professionally and accurately.
  • Provides adequate preparation of the course material for all assigned courses. Adopting, implementing, and supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies throughout the Division, including Equity-Minded Teaching and Culturally-Relevant Pedagogy
  • Commit to working as a team member and assist the Department Chair with program operations, scheduling, and other miscellaneous assignments such as assisting with programs at local high schools. Assists in program reviews and evaluation process required by internal/external sources.
  • Must plan and conduct an advisory committee meeting once in the fall and once in the spring with community members in the automotive industry.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the approved program curriculum and syllabi and participates in cooperative planning with colleagues. Assists with training of instructors and with the preparation of materials for them.
  • Participates in college-wide assessment of student learning activities and/or projects.

Non-Essential Functions:
  • Attends all regularly scheduled department, division, and college meetings/trainings as required by contract, unless these meetings conflict with a scheduled class or unless the faculty member is excused by the chair/supervisor or Dean.
  • Participates in graduation ceremony.
