Position SummarySinclair Community College is a comprehensive community college with an enrollment of over 20,000 students that offers career and transfer programs leading to associate degrees, certificate programs, and continuing education opportunities. The Design Department announces a full-time tenure track position available August 2023.
Principal AccountabilitiesPerformance of the six critical performance areas:
Scholarship and Professional Growth
Teaching and Learning Facilitation
Assessment and Evaluation
Student Development
Curriculum Design
Workplace and Community Service

Specific responsibilities include:
Teach primarily visual communications courses (foundation and 2nd year courses) as needed.
Develop and revise the Visual Communications curriculum ensuring continuous alignment with program outcomes and design practices.
Curriculum responsibilities will include traditional, online and blended courses.
Develop and deliver instruction in a design lab/studio-influenced classroom environment that emphasizes an experiential learning model focused on student involvement and success.
Required to teach day/evening, face-to-face classes at the downtown Dayton campus in addition to web-based instruction.
Involvement in both the internal college community as well as outside organizations in the Miami Valley region.
Teach 30 credit hours per academic year (fall and spring semesters).
Maintain office hours as required by Sinclair policy.
Attend department and division meetings.
Participate in orientation and in-service activities.
Participate in the college's evaluation processes.
Participate in all sessions of the New Faculty Orientation program.

RequirementsA bachelor's degree in design or related field is required. A master's degree is preferred and will be required for tenure.
Professional design experience, portfolio submission required.
A design portfolio of your professional work, and a teaching portfolio required.
Strong visual acuity, and the ability to express both positive and negative aspects of creative work, and suggestions for improvements to that work through individual and group critique sessions that are supportive and helpful to the growth of the students.
Ability to teach a number of programs in the Adobe Creative Cloud, proficiency in design areas including the following: brand identity, packaging design, page layout, and print production.
Demonstrates a commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies that have been proven to help students succeed at the course and program level.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work in classrooms and studio/lab settings with students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

Official transcripts for all post-secondary degrees (if applicable) and successful completion of a background check will be required prior to date of hire.
