Job Summary:
Associate Dean of Faculty Excellence and Community Development, reporting to the Dean, to work in partnership with department chairs to support and direct initiatives in four main areas of responsibility: Faculty Recruitment, Retention, and Development; Staff Development and Support; Advancing the Teacher-Scholar Model; and Leading Research and Sponsored Programs; and teach one course per year in home department.

Founded in 1902, the College of Education, Health, and Society was Miami University's first professional school and home to Miami's first graduate of color. CEHS continues to lead the way with the highest percentage of diverse students and faculty across the university. With a robust, well-known faculty and a strong body of graduates in leadership positions around the country and world, we vigorously pursue relevance, rigor, and substance in our work. Acclaimed EHS faculty are constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries in their fields. EHS faculty members currently serve as editors for more than 10 academic journals, head six academic centers, and submitted more than 50 external grant proposals last year alone. Our faculty are deeply committed to teaching and mentoring our students and are guided by a teacher-scholar model.

The College embraces the rich opportunities available for cross-disciplinary collaboration across its six departments (Educational Leadership; Educational Psychology; Family Science and Social Work; Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health; Sport Leadership and Management; and Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry). Miami combines a wide range of strong academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. Graduate education in these programs is innovative and is leading the way in preparing students for careers in fields like educational leadership, social work, eSports, and nutrition.
Duties/Physical Demands:
The Associate Dean's key roles for this position are:
• Provide leadership for the recruitment and retention of faculty, research scientists, professional staff, and other personnel in the college.
• Foster a supportive academic culture within the college that facilitates a sense of community, belonging, academic excellence, and student success that advances Miami's teacher-scholar model and serves as a model of inclusivity and justice.
• Provide leadership for the advancement of research excellence in the college, including advancing interdisciplinary research, growing external research funding, and promoting faculty expertise.
• Manage faculty and staff annual reviews and the promotion and tenure process.
• Serve as a member of the Dean's Leadership Team, including being an advisor to the Dean and other members of the college's senior leadership.
• Provide leadership for the advancement of the teacher-scholar model, a hallmark of Miami University, which seeks to support and develop the integration of research and teaching to advance student learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctoral degree in a discipline within one of the College's six departments: Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry; Educational Leadership; Educational Psychology; Family Science and Social Work; Sport Leadership & Management; and Kinesiology and Health; record of teaching, research, and service currently at the level of full professor or scholarship qualifications that merit and qualify the candidate to be a tenured, full professor in the College at time of hire. Minimum of five years of increasing administrative responsibility in a higher education setting.
Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with ten years of increasing administrative responsibility in a higher education setting; active engagement with the promotion/tenure process; successful attainment of external funding to support research or service work; experience mentoring and supporting other faculty with advancing their research and/or teaching portfolios; knowledge of the higher education environment and the changing nature of faculty and staff in the academy; democratic/collaborative leadership skills; effective communication; who possess strong leadership, organizational, collaboration and mentorship skills and will have demonstrated a productive commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across all areas of responsibility.
