Central College seeks a dynamic and collaborative associate academic dean to join a student-focused, undergraduate residential college to serve at the interface of curriculum, policy, and faculty in a manner that manages academic resources and offices that support and develop faculty in their role as educators.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The associate academic dean facilitates operational planning in academic programs; develops and implements academic orientation for students and all new faculty; serves an ex officio role on select faculty governance committees; serves as the institution's accreditation liaison including oversight of projects and documentation related to accreditation.

Specifically, the associate academic dean has responsibility to:

  • Work cooperatively with the VPAA/Dean, associate dean colleague, and Senior Registrar to facilitate development and communication of programs, policies, and opportunities within academic affairs related to curriculum, assessment, and course management.
  • Work with Class Deans and Senior Registrar to implement the College's academic policies, including warning/probation/suspension and academic integrity policies. Bring policies to VPAA/Dean for review and clarification. Resolve academically related student issues referred by Class Deans.
  • Serve as the institution's liaison with oversight of accreditation-related processes, documents, and communication.
  • Serve as the liaison for the development and renewal of articulation agreements with other institutions.
  • Serve as the VPAA/Dean's representative in pre-tenure personnel reviews as requested.
  • Working with appropriate groups on campus, facilitates planning and assessment of student learning outcomes in academic programs.
  • Direct reports include an administrative assistant, the assistant dean for learning enrichment, the director of student support services, tutoring coordinator, and entrepreneurship faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Registrar and in communication with the VPAA/Dean, take the lead to coordinate academic content of Summer Orientation, Spring Orientation, and Welcome Week with Student Development.
  • Lead a two-year orientation program for new faculty and an orientation workshop for adjunct faculty each semester.
  • Participate in implementation of strategic academic initiatives.
  • Oversee aspects of the budget related to academic programs such as undergraduate research, honors, core, capstones.


Candidates should have excellent communication and human relations skills and be detail oriented. Our future colleague will have the ability to maintain respectful relationships while working in a fast-paced environment along with strong planning and organizational skills. Terminal degree appropriate for the discipline required.
