The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) of the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is committed to changing this alarming statistic by discovering transformative medicines to treat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

We are seeking a highly motivated in vitro Research Scientist to join our Cell Pharmacology team. Here you will advance our understanding of disease biology and the discovery of new drugs, by contributing to target validation, assay development and drug screening efforts throughout the disease area and in collaboration with the larger research organization.

What you will be doing (key responsibilities):
• Plan, develop and perform cell-based assays for drug discovery.
• Use novel technologies including siRNA, CRISPR, and recently developed methodologies for assessing in-vitro activity of drug candidates.
• Support target validation and mechanism-of-action projects, including work with primary cells, cell lines, iPSC-derived cells and/or tissues.
• Support pharmacology studies by developing and performing ex-vivo assays.
• Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.
• Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.
• Have good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices.
• Present results in lab and department meetings.
• Assist in writing of research documents and publications

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
• MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, or a related field, or a BS degree and at least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Industry experience a plus!
• Familiarity with cell culture, genetic manipulation of gene expression, and RNA/RNAi biology.
• Experience in developing and executing cell-based assays.
• Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with the ability to quickly grasp and apply new techniques.
• Experience in generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.
• Creative problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a matrixed team environment.
• Interest and willingness to work in any of the following disease areas: heart failure, atrial fibrillation, atherosclerosis, and obesity.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $66,000 and $126,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
