Organizational Unit Overview:
The Honors College (HC) and its programs are part of the Division of Academic Affairs. The Honors College provides outstanding undergraduate students with an enhanced and supportive intellectual and social environment that acculturates them to the life of the mind. HC programs help these outstanding students to become critical, independent thinkers who are active in the design and pursuit of their own education and prepared to lead successful and fulfilling professional, civic and personal lives.

To this end, the HC offers numerous opportunities incorporating service learning, leadership development, diversity awareness, study abroad, and undergraduate research. These opportunities encourage students to travel to state and national honor conventions to present papers or make presentations, an exclusive living/learning community, seminar-style classes with limited enrollment, and access to other curricular and co-curricular experiences.

In keeping with the core values of the Honors College, the HC strives to provide academically motivated students with the type of educational experience that grows successful and dynamic leaders in our state and in our nation.
Job Duties :
The Associate Dean and Director of the EC Scholars is a full-time 12-month position responsible to the dean. The position serves on the Honors College Leadership Team and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, management, and direction for the academic programs of the college and for providing effective management and supervision of the EC Scholars program. This position works closely with Dean to expand the visibility and strengthen the reputation of the Honors College and the EC Scholars. The Associate Dean and Director provides leadership for all Honors College academic programming as well as oversight of all aspects of the EC Scholars program. The Associate Dean and Director position works closely with the Faculty Advisory Committee and provides leadership for college academic programs and curriculum including the solicitation, selection, and scheduling of seminars and works closely with the Honors College Faculty Fellows. The position serves as the college liaison to the university and academic units regarding college academic program issues, including recruiting HC faculty and working with Dean to develop faculty recognition and incentives for participation in the college programs.

The position supports and oversees the recruitment, selection, and advisement of EC Scholars. The position leads student research programs in the College and serves as the College liaison with the Division of Research, Engagement, and Economic Development (REDE). The Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Director of EC Scholars works closely with faculty and administrators from other units to recruit and select students for special programs, such as early assurance and discipline scholar awards. The position facilitates and supports student research efforts and co-curricular activities such as Living Learning.

The Associate Dean and Director represents the college and the EC Scholars at campus and community functions and promotes and develops collaborative relationships with current and prospective instructional, research, and service partners. The position requires collaboration with the Dean and the Division of Advancement to monitor scholarships and create and execute development strategies. The position works with other college staff in the planning and implementation of college-wide activities and promotes Honors College students as candidates for university-wide awards. The position assists the Dean in monitoring College compliance with university policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned as needed by the Dean.

Requires academic credentials appropriate for tenure in a discipline offered by East Carolina University with demonstrated success as an academic leader and experience engaging undergraduate honors students.
