The Senior Manager, Engineering (Maintenance & Facilities), leads a site-based team who is responsible for overall facility maintenance and calibration activities including lab equipment, manufacturing process equipment and facility/utility systems. He/She/They has the overall accountability to establish, maintain and improve the site building and utility infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation, integration, modification, maintenance, and retirement of site utilities and as well as continued efficient operation of general site functions and site services.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Ensures reliable, efficient and sustained operation of the facility and all utility equipment. Drive / improve Technical Services (infrastructure, utilities), availability, and reliability.
• Manages and supervises the activities of the Facilities Maintenance staff and third-party vendors to maintain a reliable, secure and compliant site.
• Provides Facilities and calibration support to laboratory activities.
• Provides input on capital projects to upgrade or expand facilities and equipment needed. Assists in planning, execution and documentation.
• Manages staff and coordinates facility and equipment shutdowns to ensure maintenance and calibration activities are completed in a timely manner, including all necessary documentation.
• Manages third party service provider relationships; maintains a master contact list and ensures that appropriate service agreements are in place and vendors are appropriately trained and qualified.
• Helps ensure compliance of the site with a specific focus on Facilities and Maintenance operations relative to applicable US and international regulatory agencies including OSHA and FDA.
• Oversee the management of all site services, potentially including site security, pest control, architectural repairs, lease contracts, solid waste, non-clean room GMP area cleaning and others.
• Interface with site-owner to ensure all non-Novartis facility/utility equipment meets Novartis standards and is properly maintained.
• Assists in establishing KPI’s including staying within the budget, and ensures staff support and meet KPI’s. Takes corrective actions to mitigate performance gaps.
• Generate and present regular reports and reviews of utility and facility-related KPI’s, budgets, finances, contracts, expenditures and purchases.
• Supports timely closure of facility related cGMPactivites including audit observations, corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and deviations.
• Act as subject matter expert (SME) for deviation investigations involving utilities, facilities, and equipment calibration.
• Act as SME for utility equipment, site facility maintenance, and calibration program during regulatory audits.
• Act as Functional Representative for Technical Services liaising with Novartis Global Functions Supports network business processes.

Minimum Requirements

What you'll bring to the role:

• BS degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience required. (GMP biotech/biopharma industry preferred).
• Preferred 1-2 years previous supervisory experience.
• 8 years of facility infrastructure and operations management for GMP production in biotech/biopharma industry.
• Ability to prepare contingency plans and logically work through complex issues in a pressure filled atmosphere.
• Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate on cross functional teams (QE, QA, validation, operations) in a fast paced, dynamic team setting.
• Durable interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• A “can do” attitude and a willingness to do what it takes to achieve personal and organizational goals and overcome obstacles.
• Knowledgeable of health, safety and environmental regulations, and FDA (and similar) cGMPs.
• Planning, problem analysis, and decision-making skills. Proficient computer skill utilizing MS Office suite applications, Building Management Systems, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Customer service focused. Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in areas of responsibility.
• Ability to adapt in a constantly evolving environment.
