The primary objective of the Sample Logistics and Solutions (SLS) team within Pfizer Vaccine Research & Development (VRD) is to compliantly manage the biospecimen life cycle (collection, chain of custody, storage, distribution, & disposition) of pre-clinical and clinical trial samples supporting VRD's diverse vaccine portfolio. The primary purpose of this job role is to function as a senior member of the SLS team, providing sample operational and logistical support for sample receipt and processing. The candidate will provide guidance and may lead/co-lead moderately complex projects, supporting sample availability activities. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with change control and equipment management. In addition, the candidate may manage direct reports as needed and will work in a team setting, sharing roles and responsibilities as assigned by the team leader/manager.

  • The candidate will perform job responsibilities in compliance with GxP and all other regulatory agency requirements.
  • The candidate will assist in equipment management, including the management of manual freezers, robotic liquid handling instruments, sample vial decapper instruments, pipettes, water baths, and other equipment. They will ensure all equipment are qualified and validated as per current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS). They will also assist in managing the preventative maintenance and repair schedules and communication for equipment downtime.
  • The candidate will assist with change controls and manage providing requests to the informatics team to build freezers in the LIMS database.
  • The candidate will optimize the equipment life cycle with proper equipment management strategy.
  • The candidate will support off-site freezer shipping tasks by identifying freezers/contents and decommission units for off-site storage.
  • The candidate will implement strategies to maximize the freezer storage space for the team.
  • At the request of the manager, the candidate may act in the role of study point of contact for assigned studies in Pfizer's vaccine portfolio. This entails acting as an intermediary between SLS lab analysts and clinical study teams and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) in resolving sample shipment discrepancies. If assigned by manager, the candidate may provide support for questions and resolve issues from global study teams on the sample management and handling process, including the process for sample collection, sample processing, storage, and shipping. This requires ongoing attendance at study meetings to maintain awareness of any issues in the individual studies and address them proactively with the CROs.
  • The candidate will collaborate with a team of managers and across functional lines to develop and implement process improvements and build efficiencies for daily lab activities.
  • The candidate mayparticipate in the hiring process (resume reviewing, interviewing, and scheduling) and the onboarding process for new and incoming SLS colleagues.
  • The candidate may manage direct reports as requested by his/her immediate manager. This includes managing the employee's growth and career development and giving guidance on VRD aligned goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or related scientific field. Advanced degree a plus
  • At least 5+ years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft teams
  • Strong people skills and ability to communicate well within the team and cross-functionally
  • Strong organizational and coordinating skills
  • Proven track record of effectively leading teams of individuals (prior managerial experience a plus)
  • Should be self-motivated, taking the initiative to lead projects and develop and execute a pre-determined plan.
  • Should possess the ability to multi-task and align priorities with program objectives
  • Needs to have solid decision-making skills and be able to resolve moderately complex problems
  • Able to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
