Position Summary General Position DescriptionThe Director of the Mentored Scholars Program for Clinical-Translational Research (MSP-CTR) is responsible for the overall administration and management of the MSP-CTR graduate training program which includes recruitment of new Scholars, admission and retention, curriculum, evaluation, marketing and the website, as well as representing the program at the Graduate Council. The MSP-CTR program was established in 2007 with the goal of developing early career UNMC faculty, who are interested in receiving formal education to become a funded, clinical translational research (CTR) investigator. The MSP-CTR program is a degree seeking program (MS and PhD) as a subplan under the Medical Sciences Interdepartmental Area (MSIA) graduate program at UNMC.
Organizational Relationships The Director of MSP-CTR reports to the Vice Chancellor of Research at UNMC and receives a stipend for their service. The Director is a member of the Graduate Council Committee at UNMC, which meets monthly, and bi-annually with the MSP-CTR internal advisory committee to discuss program and curricular needs.Responsibilities of the Position* Serves as the administrator of the MSP-CTR Program* Oversees all aspects of the program:

- recruitment, admissions, curriculum, evaluation, monitors website
- point person to trouble shoot issues related to the program.
- supervises the work of the MSP-CTR administrator
- works with the assistant director of the MSP-CTR.
- advertises for the program, answers questions and contacts prospective candidates individually, in section/department meetings or other opportunities to describe the program.
* Reviews, interviews, and helps select Scholars on an annual basis
- oversees the interview process, which is a competitive once a year application with a goal of 5-7 scholars/class.
- orients scholars and mentors to the MSP program
- approves committee chairs and members to serves on MS and PhD committees
- participates in assigned task forces and other requests from graduate council (e.g., review new courses, develop new procedures),
- Prepares 5 year annual review for the MSP program as part of the MSIA program for UNMC Graduate College.
- Recruits faculty and staff at UNMC to participate in the CTR 901 and 903 seminar series with expertise in different aspects of CTR research.
- Terminal degree in a Health Science Area
- Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor
- Expertise in any type of clinical or clinical-translational research with experience in research methods, grant applications, federal grant funding and mentorship and/or professional development
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, collaborative effectively, be open to the ideas of others, and constructive feedback
