Category:Postdoc
Lab/Area:Krogan Lab

Description:

The Krogan lab (https://kroganlab.ucsf.edu/krogan-lab) at the Gladstone Institutes is seeking an independent and creative researcher for a postdoc position to study the molecular mechanisms and pathways underlying virus infection.

The Krogan lab has pioneered a systems biology approach, which combines proteomics and functional genomics to unravel mechanisms of disease and discover novel putative therapeutic targets. Historically, we have successfully applied our approach to infectious diseases to reveal host-pathogen interactions of various pathogens, e.g. HIV, Ebola, Zika, Tuberculosis and recently SARS-CoV-2, to name a few. Our current projects in the virology space include elucidating host-virus networks regulating coronavirus replication and host responses in human and bat cell lines model; characterizing underlying molecular mechanisms of virus pathogenesis for different respiratory viruses including influenza, RSV, parainfluenza virus; and the QCRG Antiviral Drug Discovery (AViDD) program. The AViDD Program is an interdisciplinary program that aims to identify new direct-acting antivirals for SARS-CoV-2 and 19 other viruses.

Our projects leverage a wide array of experimental approaches with a collaborative infrastructure. Applicants must have a Doctoral degree in a related discipline with good skills in virology, molecular biology and cell biology, and the desire to contribute to a collaborative and fun environment. A background in proteomics would be advantageous. It is expected that you will lead efforts in discovering host-virus interaction networks and functionally characterizing selected molecular interactions in relevant cellular systems.

Required Education: PhD in virology, molecular and cell biology, or a related field.

Required Experience:
  • Expertise with RNA virus infections under BSL-2 conditions.
  • Experience with cell/molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (e.g., cell cultures of mammalian cells, molecular cloning, transfection/transduction, protein purification, western blotting, immunofluorescence).
  • Experience with CRISPR or siRNA-based functional genomics approaches.
  • Record of publication in peer-reviewed journal(s).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including critical and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to independently design and execute experiments, interpret data, and identify appropriate follow-up strategies.
  • Ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
  • Desire to learn unbiased proteomics approaches.
  • Highly motivated, curious and detail-oriented scientist.

Hiring Range:

$64,480 - $76,980

Additional Information:
  • Title and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
  • Gladstone is an equal opportunity employer.
