Description:
The Jain Lab (https://ishajainlab.com/) at the Gladstone Institutes is looking for a Research Associate to begin working ASAP. The scientific goal is to study oxygen and vitamin metabolism as a way to treat disease. This position will require a combination of wet lab molecular biology/biochemistry experiments, as well as animal work. Previous mass spec experience is key strength, but not required.
The Research Associate will be expected to perform a range of experimental techniques (cloning, western blots, protein biochemistry, tissue culture, microscopy, etc.) as well as animal husbandry (maintaining mouse colonies, designing breeding schemes, keeping daily record of body weights/survival/activity, behavioral studies, basic dissections, etc.). They will also assist with running samples on a high precision mass-spec for targeted and semi-targeted metabolomics.
Applicants should be able to perform basic quantitative tasks (e.g. dilutions, molarity calculations, manipulating excel files, database management, etc.). The person in this position will work closely with the principal investigator, potentially resulting in first-author publications and conference presentations.

Required Qualifications:
- AA or AS and 2+years related experience or BS or BA or MS in Molecular Biology, Chemistry Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field
- At least two years of previous hands on work with animals (either post-college or during undergraduate training)
- At least two years molecular biology experience (either post-college or during undergraduate training)
- Undergraduate degree in biology/chemistry preferred
- Extremely organized, able to work well with excel and new softwares
- Willingness to learn new methodologies
- Some flexibility with schedule (e.g. checking on animals on weekend, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with mass-spec
- Previous experience taking independent projects to completion
- Experience with genomics tools and 1-2 years of statistics/computer science
