Position Summary The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE is conducting a search for the next Chief of General Surgery. This is an outstanding opportunity to build on the division's existing foundation in UNMC's progressive academic medical environment, leading our clinical areas in Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, Minimally Invasive/Advanced Robotic Surgery, and Colorectal Surgery. The division has a strong multidisciplinary Bariatric Program and established Minimally Invasive Program including a one-year fellowship training program in Minimally Invasive Surgery. In addition, the division has a well-established and growing Colorectal Surgery Program which is involved in the new Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center.The Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and will lead the General Surgery Division with the responsibility for teaching, research, and clinical service as well as academic planning, development, and resource management. The successful candidate will be an MD/DO (or equivalent degree), Board Certified in Surgery, currently hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with experience in leadership and management in an academic setting. Outstanding clinical and teaching skills, the ability to foster research, and a commitment to service, excellence and diversity are required.As Nebraska's only public academic health sciences center, UNMC is committed to the education of a 21st century health care work force, to finding cures and treatments for devastating diseases, providing the best care for patients, and serving our state and its communities through award-winning outreach.
