The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has an immediate opening for a Geoscience Trainee in the Geologic Mapping Division to assist Senior Geoscientists with a wide range of research, planning, and coordination in the areas of detailed geologic mapping and stratigraphic framework studies. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

An employee in this job participates in formal and on-the-job training to develop the necessary skills and experience to perform geologic work. Work is focused on developing technical skills in the study, charting, preservation, utilization, development, or protection of geologic features or mineral resources such as groundwater, natural gas, coal, and oil.

Assignments are designed to provide experience in the practical application of the theories and principles of geology. Assignments are initially limited in scope and complexity but become increasingly difficult as technical proficiency is attained. Work is reviewed by a professional supervisor for completeness, accuracy, quality, application of accepted geologic principles and standards, and professional development.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Middletown.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists; or
  • A bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field including or supplemented by 30 college credits in geologic coursework; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Necessary Special Requirement:
  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
