Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,100 students annually.

In addition to a 57-acre main campus, CCC has a 60-acre farm used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The college also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.

Job Description

CCC is seeking an adjunct on-farm Horsemanship instructor. The Feedlot Horsemanship course will be offered in a flexible schedule format. This unique position plays a crucial role in preparing students with an opportunity to increase their skillsets and understanding of proper horsemanship in a feedlot setting. Horsemanship instructional responsibilities include teaching, oversight and implementation of proper handling techniques, and proper care of horses and cattle. The selected candidate will provide guidance and support to students, addressing their questions and concerns effectively. Assessment of student performance through assignments, exams, and other evaluation methods is expected.

Students will be taught to understand the proper anatomy of horses to ensure safety for the rider and the livestock. Students will also gain an understanding of conducting feedlot techniques while riding, including, but not limited to, properly preparing horses for riding, caring for horses after riding, and being able to identify sick cattle.

SALARY
$650 per credit hour.

Qualifications
  • Must have extensive knowledge of equine anatomy and care and know proper techniques for cattle feedlot tasks (such as opening and closing gates, pen riding, and moving cattle).
  • Associate degree and/or at least two years of professional experience in the field.
