Job Description:

SUNY College of Technology, Alfred State College, seeks qualified applicants for a ten-month, tenure track Assistant Professor position in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program starting August 2023 for the 2023/2024 academic calendar year. This position focuses on teaching laboratory and project-based learning course work. The department is interested in individuals who have a passion for relating engineering theory to practical applications to enable students to learn by doing. This position primarily involves teaching courses in CAM, manufacturing processes, GD&T, Material Science, Solid Modeling, and Mechanical Design Principles.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Teaching mechanical engineering technology courses in both lectures and laboratory settings.
  • Responsible for every aspect of courses from laboratory set-up to grading and assessment.
  • Academically and professionally advise students.
  • Oversee senior projects.
  • Collaborate with the department on initiatives ranging from ETAC-ABET to program development and campus service.

Requirements:

Position Minimum Required Requirements
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering technology, or closely related field or extensive certifications/experience
  • 3 years industrial experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Position Desired Requirements
  • 3 years industrial experience in manufacturing, machining, drafting, mechanical design, or related areas
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling program
  • Prior training or teaching experience

This applicant will be evaluated by the following criteria: industrial experience, engineering technology teaching or training experience, education, ability to communicate, participation in professional societies, certifications and licensure, and scholarly ability. While quality teaching is the primary responsibility, student advising, university service, professional development, mastery of discipline, and scholarly ability are required for promotion and tenure too.
