Job Title Assistant Professor of Physics Rank Assistant Professor Tenure Information Tenure Track Job Description
The Department of Engineering and Physics at Providence College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position commencing in August 2024.
We seek an individual who will establish a vibrant, ongoing research program involving undergraduate researchers and who will be active in service to the department, College, and physics community. The College has recently completed a multi-million-dollar Science Complex renovation that provides flexible state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities designed to support an array of pedagogies that enhance student engagement and that emphasize inclusive excellence.
The Engineering and Physics Department recently participated in a year-long AIP TEAM -UP initiative and is continuing the process of implementing several strategies to increase the sense of belonging for all members of our physics community. As our student body becomes increasingly diverse, we welcome applicants with experience teaching and mentoring students from a broad range of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Essential Duties Education and Experience Required
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in physics (or closely related field) from an accredited institution and demonstrate the promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching at all levels within a physics-based curriculum.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
• Earned doctorate in Physics or closely related field (by August 2024)
• Clear research plan with potential to include undergraduate students while also achieving publishable scholarly productivity
• Successful teaching experience, preferably including higher education experience
• Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, diversity, and equity
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :
• Demonstrated success mentoring students
• Demonstrated success engaging undergraduates in research
