Position Information
Job Title Student Assistant - ENV Research Assistant
General Description
This is a student position responsible for performing field data and sample collection, sample preparation, and lab analyses. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
1. May assists in the capture and collection of field data.
2. May cooperates in the handling and processing of data, as necessary.
3. May assists in the development and completion of surveys, reports, analysis, etc.
4. May perform work in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, wind, rain, and humidity.
5. May assists with special projects as assigned.
6. May process samples and perform lab work
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
1. Knowledge of data collection principles and practices.
2. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
3. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
4. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
5. Ability to conform to laboratory safety protocols
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands
Ability to perform work in varying environmental conditions including SUMMER HEAT , humidity, wind, and rain.
Must be able to tolerate the elements of the outdoors with the presence of bugs, insects, poison ivy, brush/briars, etc.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
