Description
The School of Professional Studies (SPS) at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time position at the level of Associate Professor of Professional Practice or Professor of Professional Practice to teach in the MS Program in Information & Knowledge Strategy (IKNS). This position will begin on July 1, 2024. This is a full-time appointment with a multi-year renewal contingent on successful review.

We seek outstanding candidates with a graduate degree in information science, business analytics, digital product design/management, collaboration, project management, organizational psychology, change management, strategic leadership, entrepreneurship or other quantitative disciplines directly related to the below stated mission of IKNS. Experience mentoring students on consulting projects, where students solve real-world challenges with industry partners, is a plus. The ability to form partnerships and collaborations with industry stakeholders to develop applied research and foster entrepreneurial ideas is also welcome.
In addition to research and service, this position will involve regular teaching in the program's core and/or elective courses. The successful candidate will teach 4 courses per academic year in several of the following areas: A.I., business analytics, collaboration, behavioral science, project management, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, consulting, and strategy. The Associate Professor of Professional Practice/Professor of Professional Practice will also participate in course development, student mentoring, and overall development of the IKNS program.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the successful candidate may at some point have the opportunity to serve as the program's director to lead programmatic efforts and strategic planning. Program Director responsibilities include: recruiting faculty and staff, budgeting and planning, student life, alumni affairs, and professional development opportunities for students. Finally, program directors also participate in admissions review, curriculum design, student mentoring, and overall development of the program.

The Master of Science in Information & Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) program's mission is to provide graduates with theoretical foundations and practical skills in the strategic use of data and information in management, focusing on three pillars: data & analytics, people & networks, and integration & strategy.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
  • Hold a doctoral degree in a field directly related to the above stated mission and curriculum of IKNS. All applicants must have a BA/BS.
  • Possess a proven track record of high-impact work in both academia and practice.
  • Have worked with companies, non-profits, or NGO/governmental institutions in areas directly related to the above stated mission and curriculum of IKNS.
  • Exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and curriculum design.

Candidates at the rank of Professor of Professional Practice are expected to have substantial experience and accomplishments, a superlative teaching record, and documented evidence of excellence in carrying out administrative or other department responsibilities.
Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor of Professional Practice are expected to have teaching experience, documented evidence of excellence, and evidence of professional growth and activity in the given field.
