Assistant Professor of Physics
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary:
The Assistant Professor of Physics is a tenure-track faculty position responsible for teaching introductory physics courses for science and liberal arts majors as well as upper division physics courses.
Involving undergraduate students in research projects, development of a research program, and participation in the ongoing development of the physics program are required.
The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Scholarship in the discipline, involvement with advising, and service to the department and profession are expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Effectively teach 12 credit hours of physics lecture and laboratory courses per semester.
Conducting scholarship in the discipline that involves undergraduate students.
Advising undergraduate students.
Participating in service activities at the department, university, community, and professional levels.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Physics or closely related discipline completed by August 15, 2024.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and creating a positive learning environment.
Enthusiasm for teaching all introductory physics and/or astronomy classes.
Enthusiasm for teaching Electronics for Scientists, Intermediate Laboratory, and/or Advanced Laboratory.
Enthusiasm for teaching current upper-division courses and/or developing new courses related to the candidate's area of expertise.
Enthusiasm for working with and inspiring undergraduate students.
Ability and enthusiasm for supervising undergraduate physics and/or astronomy research.
Research interests that diversify the research of current CMU physics faculty.
Postdoctoral teaching and/or research experience.
Ability to communicate and work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues.
