The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the State University of New York at Binghamton invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning in Spring 2024. The department is interested in the intersecting areas of Solid Mechanics and Materials. Applicants are sought with a strong background in computational and/or experimental solid mechanics and a productive record of scholarship in applying this to novel materials and structures with applications in emerging areas.

Binghamton University is an R1 public research university and has a large and growing research portfolio in battery technology, advanced manufacturing, electronics packaging, pharmaceutical sciences, healthcare and therapies, and sustainability. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 24 faculty members, with undergraduate and graduate enrollments of approximately 400 and 125 students, respectively. Candidates must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The candidate will be expected to develop a research program capable of securing competitive external research funding. Candidates must also have a potential for quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in mechanical engineering.
