This posting is for a substitute School Nurse to be available on an on-call basis serving grades K-12. The rate for an RN is $45/hour. There is also opportunity to serve as a substitute teacher at a daily rate of $230 for the right candidate. The School Nurse is responsible for the health and medical needs of children to which they are assigned and the School Nurse treats student injuries or illnesses and takes an active role in advising students, their parents or guardians, and staff on health issues. The School Nurse is responsible for the supervision of all students within his/her assignment, is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal of the school or his/her designee. TITLE: SCHOOL NURSE QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree in nursing from an accredited institution Current, valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Current certification in CPR and first aid from a recognized provider Knowledgeable in the areas of pediatric/adolescent nursing and health counseling, mental health and crisis intervention Strong communication skills, both written and spoken Ability to relate well to others Computer skills including utilizing Google platform and programs within Google Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure in Nursing preferred At least two years of related experience in child health, community health or other relevant nursing experience preferred REPORTS TO: Principal SUPERVISION: None ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the School Nurse will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate. Conduct health assessments for students seeking medical attention due to sickness or injury Provide appropriate medical intervention to students once needs are assessed. Communicate medical information appropriately with family members should a student need to go home or if additional follow-up/treatment is necessary. Appropriately document student health concerns and maintain up to date and accurate student health records. Provide consultation to school adjustment counselors and the administrative team in cases of suspected abuse or neglect when needed, including filing of 51A's Dispense medication to students in school in compliance with physician's orders and state guidelines. Ensure that all medication is appropriately stored and locked at all times. Conduct health screenings, including state mandated screenings, to promote the prevention and detection of health concerns. Keep track of student immunization records, and update student health files, per state mandates and guidelines. Continuously monitor students' health and make appropriate modifications to the needs of individual students requiring medical care as necessary. Consult with pediatrician offices, and other health professionals, regarding student health issues or concerns, including concerns involving student absenteeism and/or tardiness. Provide consultation for school sports related injuries as needed, particularly when the injury impacts school functioning. Provide professional development to staff on relevant student and school health issues, including the implementation of staff best practices. Facilitate the removal of health-related barriers to learning and promote an optimal level of wellness for students and staff. Coordinate and participate in the establishment, review, and implementation of school health services, policies and procedures. Assure that such policies and related procedures adhere to state and federal mandates and ethical standards of nursing practice. Develop and help plan activities and programs that promote healthy nutrition, hygiene, exercise, and other healthy habits for students. Implement communicable disease control in the school, including monitoring and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the school. Participate in the training of First Aid/CPR/First Responder Program for schools and staff. Provide consultation in the development of the school's emergency health and crises plan. When appropriate, direct, monitor and evaluate aides, assistants, volunteers, unlicensed and/or licensed personnel assigned to the school health program. Provide training for staff regarding chronic illnesses and any medical care that may be needed at school by students. Provide staff with student health concerns and emergency information as necessary and appropriate. Function as a health resource for families in need, including providing community health referrals when appropriate Promote problem solving and cooperation among the school and family when health concerns arise Provide consultation to members of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team or other multidisciplinary team on health related concerns. Work in collaboration with the administrative team to ensure medical related needs are appropriately met at school. Facilitate medical 504 plans as needed and provide consultation and recommendations in the planning and development of health accommodation plans for Section 504 eligible students. Maintains and respects strict confidentiality of any sensitive information related to Atlantis Charter School, its faculty, staff and students.
