Job Description:

General Statement

Instructors will teach course(s) within a specific discipline to a diverse student population at our Downtown Worcester campus surgical technology simulation/skills labs and clinical sites in our service area. Responsibilities will include instructional preparation, assessment of student performance and assistance to students.

This position facilitates learning for students enrolled in the Associate Degree in Respiratory Care. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strong respiratory clinical skills and academic experience in Respiratory Care.

The full-time workload for this position may take place in Worcester or any another QCC instructional location.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Assistant Dean of the School of Healthcare.

Supervision Exercised

The full-time faculty member exercises supervision over personnel assigned to him/her.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom, laboratory, clinical and/or team teaching instruction and facilitate individualized and non-traditional approaches to learning as appropriate.
  • Develop and/or revise instructional materials with other faculty members.
  • Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities.
  • Demonstrate professional respiratory therapy practice through the ability to teach in the classroom, laboratory, simulation laboratory, and/or clinical.
  • Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in the continued development, implementation, and evaluation of the program as related to its CoARC's goals and objectives.
  • Actively participate in ongoing curriculum & program review.
  • Actively participate in the establishment of procedure and guidelines for all aspects of the program.
  • Conduct academic advising and assistance of students and prospective students.
  • Actively participate in the coordination of classroom, laboratory, simulation laboratory, and/or clinical activities including purchasing supplies and integrating educational instruction with hands-on laboratory and simulation activities.
  • Participate in the development and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomes.
  • Actively participate in regular and consistent contact with students, faculty, and clinical affiliates, regardless of program location.
  • Demonstrate currency in professional discipline through continuing education, professional development, or scholarly activity.
  • Participate in student recruitment.
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE)
  • Evidence of current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist license in good standing.
  • Evidence of current valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in clinical respiratory care;
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical instructor or preceptor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field or evidence that the master's degree will be completed within three years from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Predisposition to working in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated track record in innovative, non-traditional modes of instruction and instructional delivery, including team teaching across disciplines, simulation, and service learning.
  • Evidence of understanding of and appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism.
  • Two years of successful college teaching, preferably in a community or technical college setting.
  • Advanced experience in the respiratory field including certifications in adult critical care, neonatal/pediatrics, pulmonary function testing, sleep disorders, home care, rehab, etc.
  • Predisposition to working in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork.
  • Strong evidence of passionate commitment to striving for excellence in working with students, faculty, and staff and in responding to opportunities that extend the Mission of the College.
  • Documented evidence/examples of effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in didactic, lab and clinical courses.
  • Experience with computerized simulation.

Salary

Minimum starting salary is $62,838. Anticipated annual starting salary range is $62,838- $66,039 and includes a complete benefit package. Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience.
