Job Summary:
The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care seeks a Palliative Care physician to join our team. This individual will provide palliative care services to UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital, a nonprofit, 450-bed community hospital which provides a complete range of medical and surgical services. Candidates focused on clinical trials are of particular interest.

Despite its university affiliation, the division's daily workflow more closely resembles that of a general community practice. In distinction to other community practices however, this position offers unique access to the benefits of university affiliation and state employment. These include the ability to pursue passions in collaborative research or medical education, if desired. As a public employee, the faculty new hire will participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System which includes pension benefits and malpractice coverage. The successful candidate will provide direct patient care, education to learners of all levels, and will effectively engage with the interdisciplinary team. Direct patient care is provided at UnityPoint Health/Meriter, including inpatient and consult service, while proactively supporting quality improvement and educational efforts. Effort allocation to ambulatory clinical duties may be added if appropriate to successful candidate research and clinical interests. The successful candidate's clinical effort is negotiable (60-100%) depending on interest and experience, grant funding and other scholarly activity.

The successful candidate will participate in administrative, and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Clinical research is conducted in the UWCCC by 18 multi-disciplinary Disease Oriented Teams and is supported by the UWCCC Clinical Research Central Office on the main campus. Over 170 UWCCC investigators regularly enroll patients to therapeutic intervention trials at our UWCCC clinical sites. We are a member of the NCCN, ECOG- ACRIN, Alliance, BigTen Cancer Research Consortium, Wisconsin Oncology Network (WON) and Wisconsin Association of Hematology and Oncology (WAHO).

The Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology & Palliative Care is part of the Department of Medicine and the NCI-designated UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Division is active in all phases of cancer research, from prevention, screening, cancer therapy, development and evaluation, survivorship and palliative care. Terminal Degree
MD, DO or equivalent
Experience in clinical and/or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and evidence of excellence in teaching. Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.
ABIM - American Board of Internal Medicine Certification
Must be BE/BC by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Completion of a fellowship training program in Palliative Care is required.

Total compensation targets AAMC benchmarks by rank.

The start date is July 1, 2024.
