Position Summary The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE is actively recruiting a cardiovascular surgeon to join our busy cardiac surgery practice. There is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Department with national and international leaders in surgical education. The Division is a regional leader in heart transplantation and ECMO performing over 40 annual heart transplants, 60 LVADs and 100 ECMO procedures annually. There is excellent potential for an individual who is inclined towards surgical education to grow into Associate or Program Director.Most recently, we have expanded our clinical and translational research capabilities. The Center for Heart and Vascular Research, led by Rebecca Gundry, PhD, FAHA, has generated extramural funding for faculty. Our strong Heart and Vascular Clinical Research Unit supports clinical research and clinical trial participation in the cardiac surgery, cardiology, and vascular surgery divisions.
Opportunity Highlights:
· Join five other adult cardiac surgeons + full time procurement surgeon
· Manageable 1:5 call schedule
· Cardiothoracic surgery residency
· Relatively new and rapidly growing lung transplant program
· Full participation in busy TAVR/structural heart/Mitraclip program
Our compensation package is extremely competitive and includes comprehensive benefits, generous employer paid retirement contributions, CME funding and time, and paid time off.The successful candidate must be an MD/DO (or equivalent degree) who is board certified/eligible in cardiovascular surgery with expertise and primary interest in management of heart valve disease including minimally invasive approaches. Excellent clinical skills and strong interest and ability in education are a must. A record of success in minimally invasive valve operations and interest in translational or clinical research is preferred. Skills and inclination in transplant and mechanical circulatory support would be an added bonus.
